HSBC Global - Age of Asia

Type: Mirum’s Project
My Role: Start to End of 3D Animation Production
Project: Character Design and 3D Animation
3D Software: Cinema 4D, X-Particles, Nuke
Rendering: Redshift

I served as the 3D production lead for a collaborative project between my former employer, Mirum, and their sister company, Superunion. The project entailed creating a 40-second global television commercial for HKBC assets management. In addition to overseeing the project, I managed a 3D production house based in Singapore, which was responsible for animating the fish and simulating the fish fin cloth-like movement. While working remotely, I used Cinema 4D in combination with X-particles to generate particle effects and create the particle dots animation. Finally, I composed all the elements together and delivered the completed video to the client.

Particle FX + Fish Animation

It took us a considerable amount of time to perfect the particles' appearance. We conducted various experiments with dot sizes, placements, densities, and colors to achieve the desired effect. To enhance the fish's shape, I incorporated a dot grid effect onto its body. The creative director also requested a transformation effect where the fish changes from dots to a realistic representation. I dedicated almost two weeks to exploring different transformation styles, resulting in multiple versions captured in the screenshots below.
